Jeanette Lubitz is a friend. She is one of my soul sisters. She is brilliant and she is deep. This book is a testament to her life, her love for Bill and the loss of the love of her life. I have had a front row seat to her beautiful story.

In Widow Walking, Jeanette Lubitz offers a deeply personal and courageous memoir chronicling her journey through grief after the sudden death of her husband. She brings readers into her heart and mind as she navigates the overwhelming emotions, challenges, and revelations that follow the profound loss of Bill. The book is not just a story of mourning, but also one of resilience, healing, and ultimately, personal transformation.

From the outset, Jeanette's writing is raw, honest, and relatable. She does not shy away from expressing the complexity of her feelings—shock, anger, despair, and confusion—as well as the small victories and moments of clarity that punctuate her path toward healing. She skillfully captures the loneliness that comes with widowhood, as well as the subtle ways in which grief touches all aspects of life, from family dynamics to personal identity. The vulnerability with which she writes makes it easy for readers to connect with her, especially those who have experienced loss themselves.

Losing a spouse is not easy. This is my story of our lives together, our love, and the loss of my husband. It will not be everyone's story, but it just may provide something you need, or something a friend or family member needs. Above all, it will let you know that you are not

alone. ~ Jeanette

What stands out in Widow Walking is the blend of emotional depth and practical insight. Jeanette doesn't just share her story, but also offers thoughtful reflections for others walking a similar path. Her journey shows that while grief is a process that cannot be rushed or neatly resolved, there is a way forward. The book becomes a source of comfort and hope, reminding readers that healing is possible, even in the face of overwhelming pain.

The pacing of the book is well-balanced, and the narrative is punctuated by moments of introspection and humor that elevate the memoir beyond a simple recounting of events. Her voice is authentic, and her writing style, though straightforward, has a poetic quality at times, especially when she describes her relationship with her late husband or the symbolic weight of certain moments during her grieving process.

For those unfamiliar with widowhood, Widow Walking offers valuable insights into the unique experience of losing a life partner and how that loss reshapes one’s world. For those who have been through similar experiences, it serves as a companion that understands the often isolating nature of grief.

One of the book's strengths is how it avoids offering easy answers or pat solutions. Instead, Jeanette emphasizes the personal nature of grief, encouraging readers to honor their own process and timelines.

In summary, Widow Walking is an inspiring and heartfelt memoir that speaks to anyone who has experienced profound loss, but it will especially resonate with those who have lost a spouse. Jeanette Lubitz’s brave and candid storytelling makes this book a valuable addition to the literature on grief and healing. It’s not just a story of surviving widowhood; it’s about learning to live again, with all the pain and beauty that entails.
